Your diary never leaves your phone
Turnal is a bowel and gut-health diary, currently available on iPhone. What you record in it is written to your own phone and is never sent anywhere. There is no server, no account and no sync, so GigaDev cannot read your diary. That is not because we promise not to look. It is because there is nowhere for us to look.
That is deliberately narrower than saying we collect nothing. A few things do reach us, and every one of them is listed below.
On your phone
Everything the app is for lives here: your entries, the dates and times you recorded them, anything you added to them, and your settings. It stays on the phone. If your phone backs itself up to iCloud, that backup includes the app, as it does for every app. The backup is between you and Apple, and we cannot read it.
The app works without an internet connection. The only time it connects to anything is when you buy or restore Turnal Plus, and then it talks to Apple's App Store and nothing else. It contains no advertising, no analytics and no tracking, and it uses no other company's services.
The widget is on your Home Screen, and so is what it shows. It can show the day's entries and their types. Anyone who can see your Home Screen can see them. If that matters to you, leave the widget off.
The weekly reminder is set on your phone. It is an ordinary notification scheduled by the app. Nothing is sent from us to make it appear.
What GigaDev receives
GigaDev Limited is the data controller for the things in this section, and only for these. None of them contains anything you have recorded in your diary.
Crash reports, through Apple, if your iPhone is set to share them. The app contains no crash-reporting software of its own. If the app crashes, iOS can send a report to Apple, and Apple passes it to us so we can fix the problem. Your iPhone decides whether this happens, not the app: open Settings, then Privacy & Security, then Analytics & Improvements, and look for Share With App Developers. A report describes what the app was doing when it failed, with the iPhone model and iOS version. The app is built so that nothing you have logged can be part of one.
Purchases. If you buy Turnal Plus, Apple takes the payment and we never see your card details. The app checks what you have bought by asking Apple, on your phone. Apple gives us sales reports, which tell us how many of each product were sold and where, but not who bought them.
Anything you email us. If you write to us, we hold that email for as long as we need it to help you, as set out on the support page. Please describe the problem rather than attaching your diary, a report or screenshots of your entries. We do not need them, and sending them puts health information in an inbox when it could have stayed on your phone.
Files you make
The app can make three kinds of file: a report to take to a doctor, a spreadsheet of your entries, and a backup file. Each is made on your phone from what is already there, and nothing is uploaded to make it.
None of them is encrypted. Anyone who opens one can read it. When you share one, it goes wherever you send it, such as an email, a messaging app, a cloud drive or a printer. From then on it is outside the app and outside our control.
Deleting everything
In the app, You, then Your data, then Delete everything removes every entry from the phone for good. Deleting the app removes it all as well. We hold no copy anywhere else, so there is nothing for us to delete for you and no request for you to make. An iCloud backup made before you deleted stays in your iCloud until it is replaced or you delete it there.
The exceptions are the things listed under "What GigaDev receives". To have an email you sent us erased, ask and we will delete it.
Your rights
For the data described under "What GigaDev receives", you have the usual rights under UK data protection law. You can ask what we hold, have it corrected or erased, and object to how it is used. If you are not satisfied with our answer, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office.

Changes
If what the app collects ever changes, this page changes first and the date below is updated. If a change ever means sending anything new from your phone, the app will tell you before it does.
